The final street light was switched on at an official ceremony held recently to mark the end of the five-year replacement period of the London Borough of Islington Private Finance Initiative (PFI). Almost 10,000 street lights, bollards and illuminated road signs have been replaced over the first five years of the contract, as part of a huge revamp of street lighting by Islington Borough Council to help reduce street crime and road traffic accidents.
